We're here to fill the spaces between cheap commercial fiction and impenetrable literary static.
No manifesto, no grand scheme. No indictments of the modern genre. Just good stories.

2008-03-26 (Story) - Break to Bind: Death Before by Sean Crawford

Zafar had been to America before. He had earned his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering in North Carolina when he was younger. When the degree was done, he had gone home full of ambitions. But man plans, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.

Rhonda smiled at the Garners as they went out the glass doors with Miss Lita in her best blue dress and winter coat. She marked them out on her guest roster, saving them the stop.
It's been almost a year since the last Break to Bind update, but now one is finally up. The last eleven months have been a weird time for me, and my head was not in the right place for B2B. All of you who encouraged me on the back channels, I thank you and I needed it. I think it's safe to say at this point that I am all the way back, and not going away again for the foreseeable future.

I've started a new serial. Without finishing the current one, of course. These are learning exercises for me, and suffice it to say The Maiden's Claw is being written for lessons I can't learn on Break to Bind. It's more my natural style of writing. Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy it.

2007-01-07 (Story) - Darling Parasite by Colin Peters

Episode Fifteen: It seemed like hours. It could only have been a minute or two. The lights went off. I stumbled in the dark and fell. I felt light headed, leftovers from being repeatedly beaten unconscious, I suppose. Linda's body felt hot, like somebody with a fever, which made no sense.
2006-08-03 (Story) - Break to Bind: Crossing Over 1 by Sean Crawford

A Subaru station wagon sits with the engine running in the narrow lot behind an abandoned filling station on a rural road. The old lighted sign is stripped of brand and identity. It stands on the road atop its pole, a bare, rusted steel hoop for the wind to whistle through. The car’s defroster fights with the breath of the two burly men who sit inside, waiting impatiently.

I had come here tonight to apologize for not having any content this week, but I see Sean has it well under control. I've been rather busy these past couple of weeks, and have had very little time to write. Day jobs, you know. So time consuming.

I'm taking a break from revising Sweet Moonlight for a while and working on some stand-alone pieces. I hope to have a piece I call "Pod" ready soon, although probably not by next week.

In the meantime, feel free to email with comments on any of the stories, or, you know, things in general.
2006-01-05 (News) - by Colin Peters

Louis and David have done a bang-up job of adding the ability to organize stories by author and category. Let's have a big round of applause!

If some stories seem to be in the wrong category, please bear with us. We're working on it.

We have three categories of story here now: Standalone, Serials and The Cracker. The first two are pretty much self-explanatory; the last one, maybe not. I'll leave explaining the name to the guy who came up with it (ahem!), but the content is basically short pieces. It's not only short-short stories, but also fragments which might not be stories at all. For me, at least, The Cracker offers a glimpse into my notebook, so don't be surprised if things in The Cracker later turn up in other stories.

Oh, and I'm going to add another piece shortly. It's a very short one called Weightless.
